One thing you probably noticed in the Rob Joyce video from this week is that his slides have no content on them at all, just titles. You assignment is to help him out by creating content for his slides!
Your assignment is to create a PowerPoint presentation with 8 slides. Your first two slides should be identical to his. Then you will have one slide for each of the six steps in an attack. In each of those six slides (with one exception noted below), you will add three bullet points, each bullet point describing one action that he says can be taken by defenders of a network to make it difficult for his team at that step in the infiltration.
Each bullet point must describe an action. For instance, “Passwords” is not an acceptable bullet point because it doesn’t say what to do about passwords. Instead, you might write “Don’t reuse passwords across different systems”. Also, make sure it is an action that he suggests that a defender should take, don’t list an action taken by the attacker.
Don’t just make stuff up! Each bullet point must be something he actually said in his talk during that portion of the presentation. You can repeat his exact words, though in most cases you are better off paraphrasing. You aren’t creating enough slides to include everything he says, you just want three actions from each part of his presentation.
The text following each bullet must be concise and to the point. 5-10 words for a bullet point is plenty, if you are writing more, it isn’t concise. Don’t use sub bullets, if you do, you are writing too much. You never want to put so much text on a slide that the audience has to stop listening to what you are saying in order to read the slide.
It would be great if you would use the same background he uses (it’s a template called Circuit), but I don’t want to assume any particular level of PowerPoint ability so that’s not a requirement.
This is intended to be a professional presentation. There’s not much text to write, so there should be no errors at all.
One exception to the three bullet point rule. In his “Install Tools” step, I only heard two distinct actions he says you can take. And the transition from one to the other in his talk is subtle, you may need to listen to that section a few times. That slide should only have two bullet points on it.
Like most writing assignments, you must upload as a PDF files. You can create a PDF from a PowerPoint presentation through the “Save As” option in the same way that you create a PDF from a Word file. Since it will be a PDF, note that any animations or sound you add to the presentation will be for your own enjoyment only, I won’t get to see/hear them.
This assignment is worth 25 points, divided as follows:
