Sample Weekly Writing Assignment
Writing assignments are limited to a maximum of one-page, single sided, and
single-spaced (not including citations – see below). This is a relatively short assignment so be sure to use the space allotted effectively!
The goal is to ensure a clear, legible, and professional looking document.
Use paragraphs to separate the main ideas in your report and avoid overly long
paragraphs and run-on sentences. You are aiming to present your ideas in as clear and concise a manner as possible, so avoid the use of jargon, casual language, and unnecessarily complex or technical terms. Limited and judicious use of bulleted or numbered lists is appropriate at times and can be used to:
• List the main ideas from a reading
• Categorize theoretical content
• Highlight the key points in your analysis
It is not appropriate to compose your entire report (or large portions of it) using bullet points.
Citations must be provided for any outside work or ideas that you draw from, and
should be listed at the end of the report. In general you should only need to draw on the assigned readings from the course and citations for these are provided in the syllabus and on Moodle. However, if you choose to draw on additional sources (which is perfectly acceptable and demonstrates a higher level of engagement on your part) you must properly cite that material. In this course citations should follow the APA style guide and you can find instructions on this style here:
http://researchguides.library.yorku.ca/content.php?pid=239540&sid=1976503.
Note that citations do not need to fit within the one single-face page limit for the
assignment.
