Unit 6 project | English homework help

This week’s project is your first version of the essay component of your final project. You will present your big idea in a persuasive and research supported manner and include your revised thesis statement. The style of the essay should be appropriate to an academic audience: avoid slang and stay in third person, and use the proper APA citation and formatting style.

For this project, review the feedback you received for the Units 2 and 4 projects as well as the Invention Lab comments relating to the ideas, plans, and prewriting exercises you have completed so far. Expand these ideas into a first draft. You do not have to implement all of the comments from your instructor or classmates, but you should pay attention to them and follow the advice you feel will help build a strong paper.

Your draft must be at least three to five pages long (not including the title page and references page) and contain a brief introduction and conclusion. Make certain that your introduction includes your revised thesis statement, one to two sentences that identify your big idea, the problem the big idea will address, and why your solution/idea should be implemented. You will also have cohesive body paragraphs that provide a specific, focused analysis of your main points supported by the sources you found during the research process.

You must include at least three sources in this draft (in the text itself, not simply in the references page), one of which must be an academic source from Kaplan’s Library. Your sources, of course, must include in-text citations in the body of the paper as well as full citations in the references page following the APA format. If you do not include the appropriate citations, your paper will be considered plagiarized.

In addition to at least three pages of text, you must also include both a title page and references. These pages are in addition to, not included in, the three to five required pages. You can view models of APA formatted essays in the Writing Center’s reading, Sample APA Research Paper, and unit 4 includes links to numerous Writing Center resources on citation style.

Thesis

To promote the prevention of bullying school administrators, educators, and socially dominant figures need to work together.

Research overview

I would make efforts to persuade my audience by appealing to all those who can help in preventing the bullying process in schools and society. I would like to plan my research by targeting and identifying people from administrative departments like police, educationalists who form academic policies and also the people who hold enough significance in the society. I would like to gather data as much as possible about such people because with the help of their experience and expert opinion, it is possible to reach over a positive conclusion about the bullying issue.

After identifying such people, I would propose an inspiring campaign inside schools and societies suffering severely from bullying. This campaign will have several steps and through the means like media and entertainment, the problem will be presented before people in a light way, conveying a deep message that we should follow the principle of fraternity. The people involved in the campaign would like to respond directly to the questions of people, helping and guiding them in understanding the issue in a broad way. These people would also be responsible to form effective strategies like strong laws and social polices once the campaign reaches to its success. I would include all these details in my proposed research topic.

The library database that appears to be helpful is in the Kaplan University library called Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL).  It display’s numerous topic overviews on the subject of bullying.  A government website I found with the some useful information is stopbullying.gov, where they cover a number of topics on the subject.  One other website is bullingstatistics.org covers more of the statistical side of bullying.

Finally, I would like to end at a note of persuasion that bullying is not an issue in itself and if we can go into its roots, we can abolish it. We just need to take an extra step and shape a few abstract ideas into concrete ones to defeat this so called ‘invincible’ terror hovering over our human civilization.

This is my Unit 4 work:

Unit 4 Project: Reflecting on Sources

Complete all three parts of the worksheet below. Be sure to cite all sources in APA format, including using in-text citations and reference page citations in the spaces provided.  The writing should be in Standard English and complete sentences.  The sources noted in this worksheet should be related to your “big idea,” which is the basis of your final project in this course.  Save this document to your computer, and submit it through the Unit 4 dropbox, per the instructions in the classroom under Unit 4’s Project Description.

Part I: Pre-Interview Worksheet

Directions: Complete each section of the Pre-Interview Worksheet below. Although students are not required to conduct an interview as research for the final project, the process of thinking about potential questions and responses related to the final project topic will help stimulate further ideas and questions related to conducting relevant and reliable research. Of course, you may also decide to interview the person discussed here or another appropriate subject and use the material in your upcoming projects as a primary source.

Interview Topic Research

Bullying at schools seems to be a growing epidemic, with no end in sight.  The media has been focusing on how the rise of Suicidal deaths due to being bullied.

Primary Questions

  1. What are your thoughts on bullying?
  2. How do you deal with bullies in your school system?
  3. What do you think the cause of bullying is?
  1. Do you have bullies in your school?
  2. Have you ever been bullied?
  3. Do you foresee a end to bullying in our schools in the near future?

Reasoning Behind Asking These Questions

The reason behind this line of questioning is to see if she takes bullying seriously.  I want to see if she cares or not.

Anticipated Responses to Questions

I think with her background she would be straight forward with all her answers.  I also think with her 25 plus years as a educator she would be relaxed during the interview.

Secondary Questions

  1. Would you be open to having more anti-bullying programs at the school? Why or why not?
  2. Would the school board be willing to meet with parents to come up with new anti-bullying tatics?
  3. Is there any advice you would give parents of bullied kids?

Part II: Three Secondary Sources

Directions: Now provide information about three secondary sources related to your final project topic. You are not necessarily required to use these sources in the final project, though the sources noted below should be reliable and relevant as potential sources to support your thesis statement’s argument. Use complete sentences and paragraph format to summarize the information you intend to use from the source, assess the credibility and significance of the source, and reflect on how you will use the information to support or counter your argument. One of the sources noted below should clearly oppose your stance on your topic.

Source 1:

Information published in the Journal of Criminology, shows that anti-bullying programs data suggest such programs may not be really all that effective.  The programs for anti-bullying are targeted towards adult fears and misconceptions and failed to truly understand bullying from a childs point of view.  Bullying was and is a problem that has been brought in to the light, but it’s getting to much attention.

This gives me a good argument on how people either take things to far or not far enough.

Source 2:

Their were a 188 childhood educators that got surveyed in Australia about bullying with young kids.  The study showed us that 93% of them think the kids were capable of bullying.  It is important to have anti-bullying programs in early childhood education.  This was a study for early childhood teachers, to find out their attitude towards bullying.

I like this source because I think the key to stop bullying is in the education of our youth.

Source 3:

Bullying in our schools can lead to anti-socail development.  A study given to 63 male’s age 15 and 25 that took the Bully/Victim Questionair found that bullying strongly led to all anti-socail outcomes.  Bullying is a key risk for anti-socail development.  More programs should be intergrated in to the school departments.

This goes along with my paper because I want to see more programs in our schools to make them safer.
